If you know anything about marketing, you already know that it’s a highly competitive job market. And it has been for quite some time. However, it’s still a good idea to take the time to think about what you want to do and why.
I don’t think you should stop thinking about marketing once you get to that point. You should still spend some time thinking about it, like a marketing professor would. But you’ll need to do it for a few hours at least, so you don’t get too discouraged.
Marketing professors teach marketing, but they don’t teach marketing. They use their knowledge to help other marketing professors. For example, they might help you write a copy for your marketing plan, or they might help you find the best marketing strategy for your company.
Like you, I started with a marketing degree, but I did not go into marketing. I got a degree in Business Management, and that was about it. But even though I never actually studied marketing, I still think marketing is a very important subject. Marketing is a field that touches on so many aspects of how businesses are run. We use words like “marketing” and “marketing plan” and “brand management” and “marketing strategy” to describe many different things.
It’s why I love the marketing professor job. I love how the whole field of marketing is so broad, so varied, and so much fun. It’s something that even though I was never in marketing when I took my marketing degree, I can still relate to a lot of the jargon and strategies we use through the use of marketing.
The term marketing professor has been around for a while, but in a new video and infographic called “The Marketing Professor: Teaching Business Skills to All,” we learn more about how marketing professors use their unique knowledge to help students learn and perform better. It’s all very eye-opening, which is probably the point.
I guess the point of this marketing professor video is that even though I was never in marketing, I understand the business jargon and how it’s used. I’ve even been able to apply my skills and insights to the business world. I’m not quite sure if I’m a marketing professor at heart, but if I am I hope you’ll find the video helpful.
