I know this is a hard concept to wrap your head around, so I figured I would break it down into smaller, bite-sized pieces.

To help us understand marketing engineering, let’s look at the two major areas of marketing that we deal with every day: advertising and marketing automation. Asking the question, “How do I do marketing automation?” is one of the most common questions that people ask when they are trying to figure out how to build a marketing automation program.

The Sales Fulfillment process is a sales funnel that sends an email to the client that has an offer that is worth pursuing. This offer is then sent to the appropriate sales team. Once the client has received the email, the sales team is given a specific date to respond. They must respond to the email within a certain time period or else they will lose the sale. At the point where the sales team is given a date to respond, they are usually given a specific sales funnel to follow. This funnel is the email to the client where they are asked to offer the sale. This email is called an ‘offer,’ and it is a link that the client should click on to send the sales team an email asking them to respond.

The email (or offer) is sent to the right people. Marketing engineers read the email and are able to determine if the offer will send the right people the right way. If they are not able to get a specific person to click on the email, they are able to send another email to the same person asking them to do so.
